Pay for College
- Use the Montana Career Information System (MCIS) to
search for grants and scholarships, compare college costs and
more. To log on to MCIS, go to www.smartaboutcollege.org.
- Complete
the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) — The
FAFSA is the key to federal financial aid. Information provided
on the form — available
at www.fafsa.ed.gov — is
used to determine eligibility for federal programs. In addition,
some schools use the information provided on the FAFSA in their
decision-making process for scholarships, etc.
- Montana College Goal Sunday — This is a free
event held at 17 sites across Montana on the second Sunday in
February. Students of all ages and backgrounds can receive
one-on-one help completing the FAFSA from financial aid professionals
and volunteers. For more information, visit www.collegegoalmt.org.
- Employer Tuition Reimbursement Programs — Some
businesses offer to reimburse their employees for a portion of
the cost of tuition for continuing education. Programs vary widely
among employers, so it’s important to check with a human
resources representative at your place of business to make sure
you understand the benefits available and your responsibilities.
- TANF Education Assistance — Individuals
who are both students and parents may be eligible for cash aid
and help with childcare, transportation and job of training expenses
through Temporary Assistance to Needy Families (TANF). For more
information, contact the Department of Public Health and Human
Services office in your community.
- Veteran’s Benefits — The Montgomery
GI Bill provides educational benefits for participating individuals
who served on active duty, Selected Reserve and National Guard.
Service members have 10 years from their last separation from
service to use all of their benefits through the GI Bill. For
