Find a Mentor
- Meet with your counselor to confirm that you are on track with the classes you will need to apply for college.
- Keep developing your relationships with your teachers, counselors and coaches. These are the people you should turn to when you need letters of recommendation. In fact, it’s a good idea to request these letters in October, so you’ll have them when you start your college applications. Helpful information you should provide to the people writing your letters of recommendation includes:
- Your overall GPA
- A list of courses you have taken and grades earned.
- Awards you have won.
- Activities in which you have participated.
- Work experience.
- A description of your professional goals.
- Find someone who is doing the job you want for a career and get to know them. These people can offer advice about how to go about achieving your dreams, in addition to helping you get a realistic understanding of what the job is really like. (Campus job fairs are a good place to make these connections.)
